Governance
NIERI’s governance exists to provide clarity and consistency in how the work is guided.
It supports Indigenous-led decisions while respecting the authority of individual communities and governments. It does not replace community authority or impose outcomes.
Indigenous Energy Resilience Council
The Indigenous Energy Resilience Council (IERC) provides strategic guidance and oversight for NIERI. The Council is Indigenous-led and regionally diverse, and helps keep the initiative focused on reliability and practical outcomes rather than promoting specific projects.
Role of Communities
Communities retain authority over their own decisions. NIERI does not make decisions on their behalf, select projects, or require participation. Engagement is voluntary and shaped by local governance, priorities, and context.
Transparency and Accountability
NIERI relies on clear roles and documented processes that respect existing governance. As the initiative grows, we are committed to keeping the work open and accountable. This means making sure coordination across communities, governments, and partners stays responsible, transparent, and grounded in the needs of the people involved.
