About NIERI
NIERI is the National Indigenous Energy Resilience Initiative. It is a registered non-profit being developed as an Indigenous-governed meeting place. The initiative supports informed decision-making during the early stages, before specific projects or technologies are selected.
Authority within NIERI will sit with an independent Indigenous Energy Resilience Council. This Council is currently being formed.
The Gap We’re Closing
Energy decisions are often made on an uneven playing field. Indigenous communities may be asked to respond to proposals or funding programs without the same access to information, independent analysis, or ability to compare options that others at the table have.
Mission and Direction
NIERI’s mission is shaped by three core goals: helping communities make informed decisions early, ensuring reliability is treated as basic infrastructure, and reducing long-term risk across different community contexts.
How We Work
NIERI supports Indigenous governments and community partners through planning, shared learning, and early coordination, without delivering projects or promoting specific technologies.
